From the collaboration of two theatrical giants, Cocteau and Poulenc, comes this one-act opera. The play premiered in 1930 and some 30 years later, Poulenc’s opera was premiered. By moving away from many of the psychological or social issues, Poulenc focused his opera on the relationship of the woman and her lover, while still maintaining the key elements and overall character of Cocteau’s play; the chronology, the telephone problem, and past happiness phases.
